Paju daytrip

An hour's drive north, and the horizon opens. Paju is the closest city to North Korea (the DMZ from Odusan Observatory), but it's also sound and design: Concino Concrete and Camerata, rooms built for sitting still inside music, and Book City, a district made of publishers. The daytrip out of Seoul I'd actually take.

The one place in Korea I always send people beyond Seoul: an hour's flight to the volcano, forest roads, a coast you can drive for hours, and seafood off the boat. The island is bigger than you expect, and who drives you, and in what order, is most of the difference. One day only scratches it — give it two or three.
